This has been the weirdest year–disturbing, strange, disheartening–beginning with the pandemic, the economic collapse, and now continuing with the media insanity leading into the election.
Who and what do we trust? What sort of world do we want to live in? Are our nations leading us to war? And … what’s up with the strange new disease wreaking havoc across the world? All these questions come into play in Edge of Light in one way or another.
And as the presidential candidates try to steal attention from each other this month to win votes, I wanted to share a couple of October surprises of my own.
I’m finally, OFFICIALLY sharing my book cover. I love it.

My designer Rafael Andres captures a glimpse of the book’s celestial dangers and its sense of mystery while grounding the cover in a central character, shrouded in shadow. The character appears to be doing multiple things: Hailing the light on the horizon, shielding his eyes from it, both, either one, while moving toward it as if welcoming the adventure ahead. In the palette of stars and night skies, Andres achieves a perfect balance of the bracing beauty and imminent danger that the universe represents–to me, anyway. It’s a scary world in a scary universe–but there’s beauty in it too. And that’s the message of the book.
